This package will work with netcdf3 or netcdf4. netcdf >= 4.1 should have a utility 'nc-config'. This is looked for on the path or where specified by the --with-nc-config configure argument or NC_CONFIG environment variable, and if found is used to set PKG_CPPFLAGS and PKG_LIBS. Occasionally this is unreliable, and can be skipped by setting either the argument or the environment variable to a non-existent path If no valid 'nc-config' utility is found, the rest of this file applies. The location of the netcdf header can be specified by the environment variable NETCDF_INCLUDE or the configure argument --with-netcdf-include, e.g. Fedora 12 needed --with-netcdf-include=/usr/include/netcdf3 and Solaris' native compilers needs --with-netcdf-include=/usr/local/include The location of the netcdf library can be specified by the environment variable NETCDF_LIB or the configure argument --with-netcdf-lib. netcdf <= 4.0.1 is normally self-contained, but netcdf >= 4.1.0 is usually linked against HDF5. Environment variable HDF5_LIB or configure argument --with-hdf5-lib can be used to specify the path to the HDF5 libraries. The configure script looks to link against first -lnetcdf and if that fails -lnetcdf -lhdf5 -lhdf5_hl -lcurl -lz The latter is what is usually required for a static build of netcdf 4.1.x, but provision is made to specify another set of additional libraries via environment variable NETCDF_EXTRAS or configure argument --with-netcdf-extra-libs.
